carbon is stored in trees and if slash and burn is used then that carbon is released in to the atmosphere increasing c02 levels. also trees give out oxygen and if removed then the amount of c02 being used for photosynthesis is reduced as is the amount of oxygen given out.
hope this helps!

A briefing would be:
Less tress = Less oxygen produced by plants
Less oxygen = less carbon emitted by animals/humans

It decreases the amount of oxygen available for human life. During a process called photosynthesis, plants take heat from the sun, carbon dioxide and water and make oxygen (that we breathe) and glucose (which we use for energy). It’s formula is the exact opposite that of cellular respiration. Glucose and oxygen make water, carbon dioxide and create heat by breaking of bonds when splitting up glucose. The formula(s) are:
C6H12O6 + 6O2 < ---> 6H2O + 6CO2 + heat
(The arrow pointing in both directions indicates that the reaction is reversable.)
With deforestation there are fewer plants to take the carbon dioxide we exhale and make it into oxygen so we can breathe.

If the trees are taken away they are not there to take in the CO2 and give off the O2.
If the trees are burned, as in slash and burn methods for getting rid of them, then there is more CO2 in the atmosphere.
There loss also effects other things such as the other plants and animals in the local environment and the water cycle with more flooding.
