what is the best way to recycle x-acto blades?
Question by Raenear: what is the best way to recycle x-acto blades?
I go through many x-acto blades and I was wondering if the company or any other materials manufacturer takes in any used blades to melt down(or do whatever they do) to recycle them.

X-acto blades are pretty small. Even if you go through 10 a day, there’s not much metal there. I wouldn’t worry about recycling them so much as being able to dispose of them safely so that nobody is injured by them.
If you really want to do something with them, ask at a pharmacy if there’s a place nearby that has a “sharps” disposal. This is the plastic box where hospitals, doctors, etc dispose of medical stuff with sharp edges or points, like hypodermic needles, scalpel blades, etc. Maybe you could put your blades in there.

You could always use them as arrow points.

Here’s some ideas from Fine Scale Modelers: http://cs.finescale.com/FSMCS/forums/t/24372.aspx . I’m thinking if the blades will fit into a Tic Tac dispenser, these might work just as well for safer disposal.
Once had a home with a slot cut into the back of the medicine cabinet recessed into the wall. Apparently the previous owners slipped used razor blades back in there between the 2″ X 4″ wall joists to contain the razor blades. Don’t know what happened to them when I sold the home, though … so I’m not sure that is really recyling, although there is now the drive-through portion of our local bank where my home used to be!
Best of wishes.

i would put them in a recycling bin or if your area does any scrap metal pick up like mine put them with all your scrap metal pile.

This is one example of the law of diminishing returns because you will expend more energy trying to recycle them than you would save by the effort.
However, they are steel, so you can simply toss them in with other steel and iron items destined for a recycler. Unless you have a place to store a 30 cubic yard dumpster for steel and iron, there is little money in recycling it on small scale. If you find someone who will take them- great. If not, don’t go out of your way to try recycle them beyond sharpening them once or twice on unglazed porcelain tile.
